Conversion formulas

One metre is exactly 3.28084 feet, so one square metre is 3.28084² ≈ 10.7639 ft². To go back, m² = ft² × 0.092903. Type in either box and the other updates.

Panel count formula

Net area = width × height − openings. Panels = ceil(net area × (1 + waste%) ÷ panel area), where panel area is width × length in millimetres divided by 1,000,000. We always round up, because you cannot buy part of a panel.

Worked example

A wall 5 m wide and 2.8 m high is 14 m². Deduct a door of 1.8 m² to get 12.2 m² (131.3 ft²). A standard 1220 × 2440 mm sheet covers 2.977 m². With 10% waste: 12.2 × 1.1 = 13.42 m² ÷ 2.977 = 4.51, so you need 5 panels.

This area method assumes offcuts can be reused. For tall walls, patterned panels or vertical joints that must line up, lay it out panel by panel instead, as the real count can be higher.

FAQ

1 m² = 10.7639 ft². Equivalently 1 ft² = 0.092903 m².

How much waste allowance should I add?

There is no universal figure; it depends on room shape, pattern and cut-offs. Installers often use somewhere between 5% and 15%. Ask your installer or the product's fitting guide.
